Intro
Let’s be honest — life in Nigeria can feel like a full-time adventure. Between the traffic, the network issues, and the hustle, we could all use a little help to make our days smoother. Thankfully, some mobile apps have become true lifesavers — helping us chat, move, pay, shop, create, and even think smarter.
In today’s episode of our Seven of Seven series, we will be looking at seven everyday apps that are helpful in making us have a smooth day. As always, there are lots of items on the list, but we are constrained to picking only seven. In case we don’t pick an app you have in mind, we would love to hear in the comments section. Without taking much of our time, here are 7 everyday apps that genuinely make life easier in Nigeria
1. WhatsApp — The Lifeline of Communication
From family groups to business pages, WhatsApp is the unofficial national communication network. It’s fast, reliable, and familiar — perfect for sending messages, sharing documents, or even running your side hustle. And with WhatsApp Business, you can add catalogs, auto-replies, and reach your customers with ease. This app is truly a communication lifeline, and there are but a handful of smartphone users who prefer not to use it. So, from reaching that friend, loved one, contact, associate to staying entertained with various WhatsApp statuses and business needs, WhatsApp sits on the top of our list of seven apps that help Nigerians have a smooth day.
2. Google Maps — The Traffic Tamer
If you’ve ever been lost in Lagos or made a wrong turn in Abuja, you already know Google Maps is a blessing. It helps you find the fastest routes, discover nearby spots, and avoid that “where are you now?” drama. Also, in case you don’t want to appear like a JJC (journey just come), you can leverage information from Google Maps to know how far you are from the bus stop you intend to alight when in a public bus. With live updates and voice navigation, it’s your silent co-pilot.
3. Opay — Banking Without the Stress
Yes, this digital banking app makes our third item on our list. While there are a couple of digital banking apps to pick from, Opay stands out and makes our list of seven. Opay has redefined how we move money. No long queues, no endless “try again later.” Just seamless transfers, bill payments, and airtime top-ups. Whether you’re paying a vendor or splitting the bill with friends, Opay makes mobile finance easy and fast. Are you yet to have an Opay account? You can create one using this link here.
4. Canva — Design Like a Pro
With this app, you don’t need to be a professional graphics designer to get things done. From flyers, CVs, and Instagram posts, to much more, Canva has got you. Plus, you don’t need to be a designer to make something beautiful. From small business owners to students, it’s everyone’s creative toolkit. You can even design right from your phone while in traffic. Is it that easy, you may ask? Absolutely, you’ve got loads of templates to pick from and customize to suit your needs. With regular practice and use, people will start asking, who’s your graphic designer? And you’ll have that smug on your face like – hey!!!! What do you mean?
5. Uber — Comfortable Rides, No Wahala
You will agree with me that sometimes, all you need for a journey is just peace of mind. You are not ready for unnecessary stops at bus stops or arguments with conductors and drivers; you just want to sit comfortably, get to your destination, and pay the amount that pops up. Well, Uber brings convenience to transportation, letting you track your driver, share your trip, and ride safely. Depending on the journey and mood, you might even want to leave your car behind and use a transport service to make that trip. Also, while there are a couple of choices to pick from, Uber makes it on our list of seven today. Thinking of your next trip, you can try Uber and let us know your experience in the comments section.
6. Jumia — Shop Smart, Stay Home
With all the “busyness” in the world, there are times when you need something but are too busy to visit the market or store to get it. Online shopping becomes your best bet, and Jumia provides the right platform to save time and energy. Ranging from phones and fashion to food and electronics, it’s your one-stop shop. Locate the item(s) you want, add to cart, pay securely, and wait for delivery. Just on the flip side – ever heard the phrase “what I ordered for versus what I got?” Well, let’s hear your thoughts and experience on online shopping in the comments section.
7. ChatGPT — Your 24/7 Smart Assistant
Aha! I bet some of you have been expecting to see this on our list. Yes, this one made the list, and for good reasons too. Whether you’re brainstorming ideas, drafting emails, writing captions, or learning something new, ChatGPT is like having a personal assistant in your pocket. Are you a student, writer, blogger, content creator, business owner, or do you want to explore something new? ChatGPT can be your sure companion. In case you have never tried it, you can explore the web or app version. For those of you who can’t do without asking ChatGPT everything, what’s your take on the future of AI? Let’s hear in the comments section.
